Job Title: Drum Therapist for Dementia and Senior Communities
Location: Various Senior and Dementia Care Facilities
Position Type: Part-time/Full-time
Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Drum Therapist to join our team, specializing in therapeutic drumming sessions for residents in senior communities, particularly those with dementia. The ideal candidate will use rhythm and music to enhance cognitive function, reduce stress, improve mood, and foster social interaction among seniors.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Therapeutic Drumming Sessions: Lead group and individual drumming sessions tailored to the needs of seniors, focusing on cognitive stimulation, emotional expression, and physical coordination.
  • Program Development: Design and update therapeutic drumming programs that cater to the varying stages of dementia and other age-related cognitive declines.
  • Assessment and Adaptation: Evaluate participants' responses to therapy to adapt and personalize sessions. Maintain detailed records of progress and program outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including psychologists, occupational therapists, and caregivers to integrate drumming therapy into broader treatment plans.
  • Education and Training: Provide education to staff and family members about the benefits of drumming therapy for dementia and aging.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in community events or workshops to promote the benefits of therapeutic drumming, potentially expanding the program's reach.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy, Psychology, or a related field. Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 2 years of experience in music or drum therapy, preferably with elderly or dementia patients.
    • Experience in geriatric care settings is highly beneficial.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in various percussion instruments with a focus on drums.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to connect with seniors at different cognitive levels.
    • Ability to manage groups of varying sizes and dynamics.
    • Strong organizational skills for session planning and documentation.
    • Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in improving the quality of life for seniors.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to perform repetitive movements, sit, stand, and move around for extended periods.
